22 октября 2009 года исполняется 80 лет со дня рождения вратаря сборной СССР и футбольного клуба «Динамо-Москва» Льва Яшина, олимпийского чемпиона 1956 года и чемпиона Европы 1960 года, пятикратного чемпиона СССР, заслуженного мастера спорта СССР, лучшего вратаря XX века по версии Международной федераций футбольной истории и статистики, единственного в истории голкипера, получившего «Золотой Мяч» - приз лучшему игроку Европы.

Министр спорта, туризма и молодежной политики Российской Федерации Виталий Мутко высоко оценивает огромный вклад известнейшего вратаря в развитие отечественного футбола: «Лев Яшин бесспорно является одним из лучших российских футболистов. Его день рожденья отмечается всеми поклонниками этой игры. Яшин - символ советского футбола во всем мире».

10 октября в рамках празднования 80-летия Льва Яшина перед отборочным матчем на Чемпионат мира по футболу 2010 года между Россией и Германией уже состоялся матч сборных команд ветеранов двух стран. Игра закончилась со счетом 1:1.

Сегодня в Москве состоится вечер памяти Льва Яшина. В рамках вечера прозвучат воспоминания родных и близких, друзей и коллег великого вратаря. Запланированы выступления артистов отечественных театра и эстрады. На вечер приглашены звёзды мирового футбола.
